Sunday mornings – Parenting

This morning we are continuing our series on parenting, by considering the area of discipline. The writer of Hebrews reminds us that God disciplines those that He loves (Heb. 12:6) and similarly in Proverbs 3:12 we read that God disciplines us as a father disciplines his son and unfortunately, we all have probably seen the result of children receiving no discipline. We will look at what the Bible says about discipline, hopefully so that we as parents can make a better-informed decision about why, when and how we should discipline. As a Church we also have a role disciplining children and supporting families so hopefully, even if we are presently not parents, we can hear God’s challenge for us in this area.

Welcome Guest Speaker – Ps Jo Leutton

Tonight at our 5pm service we will be continuing on with our ‘Healthy Relationships’ sermon series hearing from guest speaker Jo Leutton. Jo is the Spiritual Formation’s pastor at Riverlife Baptist, a family man, a lover of board games and gifted communicator. Jo will be speaking on what Jesus has to say about relationships.

A huge thanks to all those involved in helping with the Operation Christmas Child. 50 shoeboxes were packed on Sunday and now ready to be dropped off for delivery overseas. A fantastic effort for a fantastic cause!

Next Sunday the 5th of November we are excited to welcome back the “Old Boys Gospel Band” in our 9.30am service. The Old Boys Gospel Band’s main mission is to present ‘Second Chance Concerts’ inside Queensland’s Correctional Centres. They have been based in the Gold Coast since 2007. Working closely with the State Government’s Queensland Correctional Services Department, the Old Boys Gospel Band supports and assists the Christian Service efforts of prison Chaplains, through positive live performance. Bringing a message of truth and hope to men and women of all ages who, just like these Old Boys, need to be rescued, refreshed and restored is the band’s primary goal. This is a great week to invite friends along to hear some stories of hope and life transformation.

With our Annual General Meeting coming up at the end of November, if you’re considering church membership, we’ll need to know by Sunday 12th November.

Membership gives you the ability to vote in church meetings and have your voice heard. It also shows your desire to belong to the church and come under our belief statement. To become a member, you must be baptised and have a meeting with two members (usually a pastor or elder and their spouse), your name will be announced 2 weeks prior to the quarterly meeting and voted on at the meeting. Please talk to one of the pastors or call the church office for more information. Haven’t been baptised yet? We’d love to talk to you about that too!

If you coordinate a ministry of our church, could you please prepare a submission to be included in the Annual Reports book for this year. Submissions ought to be a few hundred words, telling the story of what your ministry has been doing and the difference it is making. They are due by Sunday 12th November and are best typed and emailed to our secretary Phillip McCallum. Please contact the church office prior to the deadline if you need some assistance with this.

If you’ve joined us in the last 12 months then you’re invited to come along to get to know our Pastors, history and future vision of our church while enjoying some yummy pizza and meeting others who have also joined us recently. Pizza with the Pastors will be held at Kruger Parade Baptist on Monday 6th November at 6pm. RSVP by Sunday 5th November to the church office

Prayer is a vital part of both our Christian walk and our church’s well being. Each week we will be encouraging the church to pray for a different ministry in our church and the needs of our community. This week’s focus will be on Little Treasures Playtime:

 Pray for wisdom and direction for Sarah Kickbusch as she coordinates this group.

 Pray for the other leaders and helpers as they meet here each Thursday morning.

 Pray for the health and safety of the little children as they meet and play together.

 Pray for God’s love to be shared with the parents and grandparents who come along.

 Pray that as Christmas approaches, the true reason for the season is communicated through all that is said and done.

 Pray that the parents will be encouraged to attend Kruger Carols.

Other prayer points:

Please pray for God’s wisdom for our Mayor Andrew Antoniolli and our local councillors as they make their many decisions regarding our community.
